Episode 146 – Why do I get so sick?

#AskEvro show question of the day: “Why do I get so sick?”

I was at dinner with one of my friends the other day and he started to cough uncontrollably.

After he finished coughing, he mentioned that he was constantly getting sick over the last few months. Then he asked me, “Evro, what would make me so sick?”

First off, I asked him a few quick questions:

  • What’s your sleep like?
  • Are you stressed?
  • How’s your nutrition and diet been?
  • Are you still exercising?

Of course, we went into a deeper discussion but my assessment of his lifestyle lead me to conclude that his was simply “too busy.”

“I think your overall lifestyle may be too overactive!” I said to Victor.

a. You might be doing too much work beyond what is reasonable.

“Working too much is a stressor. And if you’re too stressed well, you’re going to run yourself to the ground (by not allowing for periods of rest) and then yeah, that’s one reason why you may get sick.”

b. You might be not sleeping that much.

Read on below.

“If you’re not allowing yourself to repair and recover, then your immunity is going to be compromised – your hormones are also going to be all out of balance and hence maybe another reason why you may get sick.”

c. You are abusing yourself in terms of not exercising and doing harmful things such as smoking

“You’ve got to get back into your exercise routine to support the energy demands of your lifestyle. And… the smoking has got to stop. You need a healthy cardio system to keep your stamina up.”

While, it was a lot for Victor to take in all at once, he silently nodded in agreement.

“So, how can I get fit and healthy again?”

First and foremost,

1. Give up the smoking
2. Start exercising so your circulation improves.
3. Giving yourself some self love.

  • Take a rest day
  • Spend time on hobbies and joys
  • Eat some healthy food

If you get sick regularly, it’s time for action. It’s time to work on your health!
